The Queens Theatre
1980s
Oil on Board
This oil painting is one of the artist's larger works. It was created on location over a period of time. The building on the center left is where the Queen's Theatre is located; at the time this painting was made, it was known as the Queen’s Hall. In Victorian times, the ground floor served as the town's corn exchange, with the theatre situated on the first floor. The artist would have been quite a spectacle with her easel and paints. People often stopped to chat and even discuss possible commissions. She loved conversing with passersby and was never too busy to engage in a conversation, which is why she became so well-known and beloved. The artist would have been quite a spectacle with her easel and paints.
